I am using the music player called Banshee on my Linux machine. It does everything that I need except for the keyboard shortcuts to add start ratings to songs.

So 3 nights later I have:

  • a working Banshee extension that rates a song based on a keyboard shortcut (such as Ctrl+Alt+5 to set 5 stars)
  • three nights worth of knowledge of C#
  • 2 hours worth of frustration caused by not realising that in Linux NumLock key acts as a key modifier too.
