I have got rid of my cable TV just a few weeks ago. The experience so far was not too bad and sometimes we watch some TV show on the TV station websites. The bad thing is that CTV (http://www.ctv.ca) do not have many adertisers opting for online ads and by the time you are finished watching one show you have seen the same ad 5 times. Try watching a couple of episodes in a row and you are brainwashed into remembering that ad by heart and hating the company who put that ad up till the end of your life.

So I did a bit of digging in the javascript code used on their website and it transpires that you can disable the ads just by adding a cookie NoAd=1.

You just need to paste the following string into your browser’s URL bar while on CTV webesite
    javascript:document.cookie=”NoAd=1;expires=Sun, 08 Sep 2013 20:27:28 GMT”

Advice: every restaurant should have a mobile version of their site

I use Yelp, Google Maps, Trip Advisor, Four Square to find restaurants nearby.

That’s happening a lot: when I am travelling, when I am out in town shopping, when I am out in town with friends. I quite often take out my phone do a quick search of what’s nearby and try to check out the menu.

And generally checking out the menu is the most difficult thing to do. More often than not the menu is barely readable on a smart phone. Menu as a PDF on a smart phone – not a good idea. Menu as a flash application/animation is even worse.

We, users, just want accurate basic information:

    • Menu with prices (and preferably ingredients for the people who have allergies and intolerances)
    • Address
    • Opening hours
